Install · Groove OS 2.0 beta

One cable.
One click.
You're playing.

Groove OS installs from this page over USB, in Chrome or Edge, in about 3 minutes. Your FM-1 stays an FM-1, and you can put M-VAVE's original firmware back from this page whenever you like.

How it installs

Try the Groove OS 2.0 beta.

The Groove OS 2.0 beta is the version where the FM-1 samples: record a sound, chop it, play it. It is still being finished. It installs from this page over USB, in Chrome or Edge, and 1.4 goes back on from the same page whenever you like. Own Groove OS? Log in and the beta installs from here. New to Groove OS? It's $29 once, 2.0 included, and after you buy this page takes you straight to the beta install. Read the release notes.

  1. Step 1

    Connect the FM-1

to a computer with a USB data cable. Some cables only charge.

  2. Step 2

    Open this page

in Chrome or Edge. It reads what your FM-1 runs before it writes anything.

  3. Step 3

    Install

in about 3 minutes, with the time left on screen. Every part is checked as it is written.

  4. Step 4

    Switch it off and on

and it starts into Groove OS 2.0. Turn SELECT to SAMPLER, play a sound into it from your phone and press REC.

The way back.

Groove OS 2.0 replaces the FM-1's software, so there are no M-VAVE screens underneath it. The way back is this page: install 1.4 again: your projects come back with it, and so do the sounds you had on 1.4. M-VAVE's original firmware (V15 or V16) goes back on from the same page too.

Going back to stock.

This page can reinstall M-VAVE's original firmware, V15 or V16, from M-VAVE's own file (the browser doesn't keep a copy). That erases saved Groove projects, so export them first on the projects page. No account needed: put M-VAVE's firmware back. M-VAVE's firmware goes on exactly as M-VAVE made it, and your own sounds wait in this browser for when you come back. On Groove OS 2.0 your samples and kits are saved in this browser first.

Coming from another custom firmware?

Groove OS installs over M-VAVE's V15 or V16. If your FM-1 runs another custom firmware, this page does it in two steps, one after the other:

  1. 01It puts M-VAVE's V15 back on, from V15's own file, FM-1.fwsc. M-VAVE's download page offers V16 now, so use the copy you kept from before. That replaces what the FM-1 runs now, and what it saved, so back up anything you want to keep with its own tools first.
  2. 02It installs Groove OS on V15, straight after.

Connect the FM-1 and the page offers both steps. Nothing is written until you press the button.
