Learn · Nine chapters, one beat

Build a beat from nothing.

One song, Golden Hour, built a step at a time: a house groove at 122 BPM in A minor. Each chapter brings in what the beat needs next, and by the last one you play it live.

The goal

Four tracks, one groove.

Every track loops on its own length. Then you mix it, add effects, and play it with mutes, punch-ins and scenes.

  1. 1 DRUMS

    PUNCH KIT

Four on the floor, a clap on 2 and 4, an open hat on the offbeats, ghost hats with a roll, a rim that plays half the time.

    1 bar · ch. 2, 5

  2. 2 ACID

    ACID BASS

A sixteenth-note acid line in A minor that climbs and answers itself, with an accent, a slide and a brighter note.

    2 bars · ch. 3, 5

  3. 3 SOFT

    SOFT KEYS

Am, Am, F and G, stabbed between the kicks, three keys at a time.

    2 bars · ch. 4

  4. 4 VIBES

    VIBES

A lead you play over the loop and keep afterwards, with a recorded TONE move.

    4 bars · ch. 7

The real Groove OS runs next to the steps, played with the mouse, a touchscreen or your keyboard. It ticks each step off as you do it and lights the next control to press.
