Learn · Chapter 6 of 9
Mix and effects.
A balanced mix: the bass drier, the chords and the lead set back, a little echo on everything, DRIVE warming the chain, the reverb a HALL, and the kick kept dry with its pad's own send.

Start from here
The FM-1 below starts where chapter 5 ended, so you can begin here.
Step 1, now: Turn SELECT one click right: MIX.
MIX is the mixer: a strip per track, with MAIN for the whole mix on the right.
SELECTManual: The stripsStep 2: Turn ALGORITHM to the ACID strip.
On a strip, K1 is LEVEL, K2 MUTE, K3 SOLO and K4 SEND: how much goes to the effects.
ALGORITHMManual: The stripsStep 3: Hold SEL and turn K4 SEND down to 80.
Less of the bass in the reverb keeps the low end tight and dry.
SELK4Tip: Held, SEL moves it ten at a time: two clicks. On its own, one click is 1 %. Every track has a SEND, the kit's pads too.
Manual: SENDStep 4: Turn ALGORITHM to SOFT and K1 LEVEL down to 60.
The chords sit behind the bass, not on top of it.
ALGORITHMK1Manual: The stripsStep 5: Turn ALGORITHM to VIBES and K1 LEVEL down to 72.
Room for the lead you play in the next chapter, without it jumping out.
ALGORITHMK1Manual: The stripsStep 6: Turn ALGORITHM to MAIN and K2 ECHO up to 12.
MAIN's four knobs shape the whole mix. ECHO sends it into the delay.
ALGORITHMK2Manual: MAINStep 7: Press FX.
The effects run in one chain for every track, left to right as the top row shows.
FXManual: The FX editorStep 8: On DRIVE, turn K4 to ON.
DRIVE is first in the chain, so a touch of it warms everything after it.
K4If it doesn't work: The sound dips for a moment: DRIVE fades in. REVERB, DELAY, CHORUS and PHASER switch without the dip once they have been on.
Manual: The FX editorStep 9: Turn K1 GAIN down to 21.
Warmth, not distortion: you should feel it more than hear it.
K1Manual: The FX editorStep 10: Turn ALGORITHM to REV, then K3 TYPE to HALL.
A bigger space than ROOM: the clap and the chords get a tail.
ALGORITHMK3Manual: The FX editorStep 11: Turn K1 DECAY up to 50.
The tail lasts a little longer, about a beat at this tempo.
K1Manual: The FX editorStep 12: Turn ALGORITHM back to DLY, then K2 TIME up to 51.
Shorter echoes: they tuck in behind the notes instead of trailing a beat behind.
ALGORITHMK2Manual: The FX editorStep 13: Press FX again.
Back to MIX. The chain's order and every value are saved with the project.
FXManual: The FX editorStep 14: Tap HOME, then turn ALGORITHM to DRUMS.
The kick should stay out of the reverb: that is the pad's own SEND, not the track's.
HOMEALGORITHMManual: The PAD menuStep 15: Press SEQ, then black key 1 to pick P.KICK.
The step grid, with the kick's row picked.
SEQ1F♯3 Manual: The step grid1Step 16: Press SEL: the PAD menu.
The pad's settings: its sound, tune, decay, level, choke and send.
SELManual: The PAD menuStep 17: Turn ALGORITHM to SEND, then K1 one click right: 0 %.
SEND starts on TRACK (the track's own). One click up is 0 %: the kick stays dry and punchy.
ALGORITHMK1Tip: TRACK sits below 0 %. From 0 % each click is 1 %; hold SEL for ten at a time.
Manual: The PAD menuStep 18: Tap HOME twice: back to TRACKS.
Out of the menu, out of the grid. A tap of HOME always leads home.
HOMEHOMEManual: The panelStep 19: Press PLAY and listen.
The kick hits dry, the clap and chords sit in a hall, a little echo trails the rest.
PLAYManual: SEND
Chapter 6 · the end
What you learned.
- MIX has a strip per track: K1 LEVEL, K2 MUTE, K3 SOLO, K4 SEND into the effects.
- MAIN's four knobs shape the whole mix: SPACE, ECHO, DRIVE, FILTER.
- FX opens the effects: one chain for every track, run left to right; K4 switches each one on.
- A kit's pads have their own SEND in the PAD menu; holding SEL moves a value ten at a time.
