Groove OS 1.4 puts your own drum sounds on the FM-1's kit pads. Bring a kick you recorded, a snare from a sample pack or a clap from your phone to Your own sounds on the website, or start from one of six ready kits, mix and match any pad, and shape them into a kit of eight. It also brings Learn, on the FM-1 itself: six short courses, from your first groove to playing it live, offline, anywhere, with nothing to add. The rest are smaller things made better, from a steadier MIDI clock to the Sounds page, where you add sound packs and drum kits before you go. Everything here is a change from 1.3, apart from one small fix after it, in 1.4.1: scenes bring back each track's pattern, not only the mutes. The chapters it links to have the details. What 1.3, 1.2 and 1.1 brought is further down.
Every release's notes, 1.0 on, are on the release notes page.
Fixed in 1.4.1
Groove OS 1.4.1 is one fix, for playing live. A scene now brings back each track's pattern as well as the mutes, so a black key switches a whole section of your song on the bar. It installs over 1.4 from the Install page like any update, your songs and sounds stay as they are, and the page shows FM-1_204 for it (1.4 shows FM-1_321). The boot screen and ABOUT keep saying 1.4.
| Change | 1.4 | 1.4.1 | Where |
|---|
| Launching a scene | Switched the mutes only: every track stayed on the pattern it was playing | Every track the scene caught with SEQ on goes to its stored pattern, A to P, on the same bar line as the mutes change. A track whose SEQ was off, a KIT track and recordings play on as they are | Black keys: scenes |
| Capturing a scene | Kept the mutes | Keeps the pattern each track plays too | Black keys: scenes |
| A scene and a chain | | The scene puts the track on its pattern, and the chain moves on from there at that pattern's end. Clear the chain to hold the scene's pattern | Stored patterns and chains |
| Scenes in a song saved before 1.4.1 | | They keep switching the mutes until you capture them again (hold HOME, tap the black key). Nothing is lost | What a project keeps |
Your own drum sounds
| Change | 1.3 | 1.4 | Where |
|---|
| Your own sounds on the website | | Drop in any common audio file or a voice memo, or record one from the computer's microphone, trim and name it, and build a kit of eight pads, with a tune, level and choke on each. Add to FM-1 puts it there in one press | Making a kit |
| Ready kits | | Six to start from: HOMEMADE, ELECTRO, ACOUSTIC, BOX 110, BOX 55 and RHYTHM. Any pad can take any free kit's sound, next to your own | Six free kits |
| Your kits on the FM-1 | | PRESETS lists them under KITS, after the kits from sound packs, with OWN on K4's legend. The keys play a highlighted kit's pads; SEL takes it | Taking your kit |
A pad's SOUND | The drum sounds and the loaded kits' sounds | Your own sounds too, by name, at the end of the list | KIT |
| Your sound on a pad | | Plays like any drum: TUNE plays it higher or lower, DECAY below 100% shortens it with a smooth end, and LEVEL, CHOKE and the pad's REVERB and DELAY sends work as for any pad. TRACK FX shape it too | Playing samples |
| How much fits | | A kit of eight short drum hits with a little to spare, or a few longer sounds. The page says in one sentence whether it fits as you build | How much fits |
Learn on your FM-1
| Change | 1.3 | 1.4 | Where |
|---|
| Six courses | | Courses that run on the FM-1 itself, offline, and come with 1.4: FIRST GROOVE, LOCK IT IN, YOUR SOUND, SPACE + MIX, PLAY IT LIVE and YOUR OWN KIT. First Groove is eleven short steps in four chapters, from an empty song to a groove you made and saved | Learn on your FM-1 |
| Opening one | | SETTINGS > LEARN, pick a course, START. It uses no song slot until you save it. Inside a course, a tap of GLO shows the card and a hold opens SETTINGS. Holding GLO elsewhere says TAP IT. LEARN IS INSIDE | Opening a course |
| Earned by playing | | A step counts only when the FM-1 hears you do it. Skip, Free Play, Finish guide and Restart guide are on the card's OPTIONS; your progress is saved with the song | Earned by playing |
| Getting them | | Nothing to add: the update puts the six courses on the FM-1 | What you need |
Songs and updates
| Change | 1.3 | 1.4 | Where |
|---|
| A song with your sounds | | It remembers the sound on each pad. On an FM-1 without one, that pad plays a built-in drum chosen on the page, and the FM-1 says 2 SAMPLES MISSING. A song holds up to 16 of your sounds, and opens on 1.3 with the built-in drums | Songs remember their sounds |
| Updating | | Your sounds survive updates on the Install page, with nothing to do. Another way of updating leaves the FM-1 without them until you upload them again | Updating |
| The way back to V15 | | V15 stays exactly as it was, and your sounds wait in the browser for when you come back | The way back to V15 |

Following a MIDI clock (EXT) | Followed the leader's tempo, and could drift away from it over a few minutes. Clocks from a computer over USB could pull the tempo down to about 40 BPM | Follows the clocks themselves and stays with the leader for as long as you play, with a drum machine or a DAW over USB, however unevenly the clocks arrive. The BPM on the screen holds steady | MIDI |
| CLEAR on a sound track | Cleared the recorded notes only, and said NOTHING TO CLEAR while a line DICE wrote was playing | Clears the pattern too, a DICE line included, with the recorded notes. One tap of SHIFT + REC (SHIFT is HOME held down) brings both back | The TRACK menu |
| Notes typed on SEQ | Could not be undone | A tap of SHIFT + REC takes them back; a run of typing is one undo (UNDO T1 NOTES) | Writing notes |
| MIX's MAIN strip, K1 and K2 | SPACE and ECHO, the same names as PERFORM's throws | REVERB and DELAY: how loud each comes back, the names MAIN FX gives them. PERFORM's SPACE and ECHO throws are unchanged | MIX |

| The website's sound packs | On the Sounds page | Still on the Sounds page, now with the drum kits and your own kit beside them: everything to put on the FM-1 before a trip, in one place. What's on my FM-1? reads it and says which sound pack is in which bank | SOUND |
Everything else plays and saves as in 1.3. Your projects, the autosave, your settings and banks A to D carry over as they are.
What came in 1.3
Groove OS 1.3 is about effects: on every track, and the way a studio has them. Every track has two sends, one to a shared REVERB and one to a shared DELAY, so the bass stays dry while the chords sit in the room and the lead gets an echo. FX opens the selected track's own effects, and HOME + FX opens MAIN FX: the reverb and the delay everyone shares, then FILTER, DRIVE, CHORUS and PHASER on the whole mix. Everything here is a change from 1.2.
Effects: two sends and a master bus
| Change | 1.2 | 1.3 | Where |
|---|
| A track's send | One SEND: how much of the track went through the effects | Two: REVERB and DELAY. On MIX, K4 is the REVERB send and SHIFT + K4 (SHIFT is HOME held down) the DELAY send; the two bars under each strip show them | MIX |
| The track itself | What did not go to the effects played dry, around them | The whole track always plays in MAIN at its level; the sends add the reverb and the echo on top | MIX |
| A kit pad's send | One SEND in the PAD menu | REVERB and DELAY, each TRACK or 0 to 100 % | KIT |
| FX | The FX editor: one chain for every track | The selected track's TRACK FX: DRIVE, CRUSH, FILTER and SLICER, then its level and its two sends. Also on MIX (FX on a strip) and in the TRACK menu | TRACK FX |
| HOME + FX | | MAIN FX: the REVERB and the DELAY with a LEVEL each (how loud they come back), then FILTER, DRIVE, CHORUS and PHASER on the whole mix. FX or SEL on MIX's MAIN strip opens it too, and FX on TRACKS' TIME row | MAIN FX |
| The delay into the reverb | Always | DLY>REV in the DELAY's and the REVERB's menu, on by default, saved with the song | MAIN FX |
MAIN's SPACE and ECHO, PERFORM's throws | How much of the mix went into the reverb and the delay | How loud the reverb and the delay come back. The throws pour the whole mix into them | MIX, PERFORM |
| New tracks | Every track all wet | A new track starts at REVERB 30 and DELAY 15; a drum track starts dry. EMPTY is voiced for it: the drums dry, the bass nearly dry, the keys and the top line in the room with an echo | MIX |
DRIVE is Groove's own, on the whole mix
In 1.2 DRIVE was the FM-1's own hard clipper, and it only reached the part of each track that went to the effects. In 1.3 it is Groove's own, the soft saturation of TRACK FX's DRIVE made for a whole mix, and it takes the whole mix, the kick included. GAIN 0 leaves the mix as it was; low values add warmth; turned up it gets gritty, and it never clips to a wall. TONE (50 flat) darkens or brightens it, and LEVEL is its output trim (80 leaves the level as it was). New projects start at GAIN 35, TONE 50, LEVEL 80. See DRIVE on the whole mix.
An old song keeps its DRIVE values: it sounds smoother, and with 1.2's usual LEVEL 30 about 2.5 dB quieter. Turn LEVEL up to 80, and GAIN to taste.
CHORUS and PHASER take the whole mix too: if an old song's PHASER or CHORUS sounds too strong, turn its MIX down.
DICE, the arpeggiator and the install
| Change | 1.2 | 1.3 | Where |
|---|
| DICE's settings | GENERATE on sound tracks: DENSITY, RANGE, KEEP, the same for every roll | Each track keeps its own. NOTE DICE on sound tracks adds MOTION (NATURAL, REPEAT, STEP, LEAP) and KEEP AUTO; DRUM DICE on kits sets KICK, SNARE / CLAP, HATS / RIDE, PERCUSSION (each AUTO, OFF or 1 to 100 %) and VARIATION. SHIFT + SEQ and the DICE row roll with them; they are saved with the song | SEQ, KIT |
| A new chord on the arpeggiator | Could cut the note that was playing and jump off the grid | The note plays out, and the next step plays the new chord, in time. Only the first chord after a rest starts at once | ARP |
| Installing | Two steps | A third, short step at the end adds the rest of 1.3. If it stops, MAIN FX, KEYS, SETTINGS and the sound editor say FINISH THE UPDATE AT GROOVE-OS.COM/INSTALL until you finish it on the Install page | Install, Troubleshooting |
Songs from before 1.3
A 1.2 song loads with both sends at its old SEND, the reverb's and the delay's LEVEL set to match, and the delay into the reverb on. It sounds as it did, except for DRIVE. A song saved in 1.3 still opens on 1.2, which plays each track at the larger of its two sends.
Fixed in 1.3
| What happened in 1.2 | 1.3 |
|---|
| With tracks of 3 (or 6), 7 and 8 bars the loop is 168 bars long; with FILL held on the 8-bar drum track, the FM-1 stopped when the loop came round | It plays on |
| A VA kit clap cut by its choke while it was still clapping kept a voice busy until the next song load | It ends |
| A note could keep sounding after browsing sound banks, until the next save | It stops when it should |
| In a heavy song the FM-1 could thin out its VA sounds (fewer voices, simpler oscillators) and stay that way | It steps back up as soon as there is room: busy songs play at full strength |
| With a sound pack in the bank the FM-1 starts on, a saved song could fail to open (1.2.4's fix, included) | Songs save and open reliably |
What came in 1.2
Groove OS 1.2 brings two big things. The keys play instantly: about 11 ms from key to sound, measured on an FM-1, where 1.1 took about 160 ms. And sounds come in sound packs with drum kits: 11 free packs, CORE plus 10 genres, each a drum kit, 24 FM and VA sounds and two or three songs. The Sounds page loads a pack into any of banks A to D and backs up what the bank held first. NEW starts EMPTY, a clean page, and songs to start from come with every sound pack. MIX and PERFORM also sit side by side on the wheel, and a few notes that hung or got cut short now behave. Everything here is a change from 1.1; the chapters it links to have the details. What 1.1 brought is further down.
Playing
| Change | 1.1 | 1.2 | Where |
|---|
| The keys | A note sounded a moment after the press, about 160 ms: the key went through the FM-1's own key scan first | A key plays as soon as it is down, about 11 ms from key to sound. SHIFT keys (SHIFT is HOME held down), OCT- / OCT+ and the step keys work as before | The keys |
| The SELECT wheel | TRACKS, MIX, KEYS, PERFORM, PROJECT | TRACKS, MIX, PERFORM, KEYS, PROJECT: MIX and PERFORM are one click apart for live play | The controls, PERFORM |
| OCT- / OCT+ in the preset browser | Closed the browser, keeping the sound | Move the keybed and leave the browser open on the same row, so you can try a sound in another octave | SOUND |
| Leaving PERFORM while the music plays | The first SELECT detent either way said TURN AGAIN TO LEAVE | Toward MIX one detent goes straight there; toward KEYS it still takes two | PERFORM |
| Writing a drum hit at the cursor | The white keys wrote steps; the black keys only picked the pad | Also: put the cursor on a step, hold SEL and press black keys, and each drum's hit lands there | KIT |
| A note just written in the sequencer | The cursor moved on as the key went down | It moves on when you let go, and while the key is down any of K1 to K4, in any order, change the note, velocity, length and chance (a held chord moves in key as one). A held chord pad works the same way | SEQ |
| DICE | SHIFT + SEQ (and on SEQ, GENERATE's ROLL); a one-bar pattern on a longer track got one bar, heard again and again | Also a DICE row in the PATTERN and KIT menus. DICE fills every bar the loop plays: a shorter pattern grows to its track, the bars share a rhythm with new notes, the last bar varies | SEQ |
| An effect's knob after a PERFORM throw | A throw left on held its value, so the same value on the FX editor (a delay's MIX, DRIVE's GAIN) seemed to do nothing | Turning that value takes over from the throw, from where the throw left it | PERFORM |
The battery and the settings
| Change | 1.1 | 1.2 | Where |
|---|
| The battery | Not shown | A battery cell in the header on the views, with up to three bars from the FM-1's own reading; the bars climb while it charges, and an empty cell blinks. SETTINGS > ABOUT > BATTERY shows the reading in volts | The controls, SETTINGS |
SETTINGS > BRIGHTNESS | A row that changed nothing | Gone: the FM-1's backlight is wired always on | SETTINGS |
Fixed
| What happened in 1.1 | 1.2 |
|---|
| A note kept sounding after fast playing (chords, trills, quick taps while turning knobs) | Every key's note ends when you let go of the key |
| A note held from a MIDI keyboard kept sounding when the selected track changed to a VA sound before you let go | It stops when you let go |
| A long sound, such as a pad, was cut short in the mix when another track played the same note, and sounded right only on its own | Each track's note ends only its own sound |
On a KIT track, SEQ after leaving the drum grid with HOME said KIT STEPS OFF and stayed on TRACKS; a second press opened the grid | SEQ from anywhere away from the grid opens it; SEQ on the grid switches the steps off and goes to TRACKS, as on a sound track |
Sounds live in the banks
| Change | 1.1 | 1.2 | Where |
|---|
| PRESETS | Kits, then the built-in GROOVE sounds, 16 VA sounds and the sound pack, then the stock banks A to D | KITS, then banks A to D, slot by slot. Each slot holds an FM (DX7) voice or a VA sound, marked FM or VA as before | SOUND |
| The GROOVE and VA sounds, and 1.1's VA pack | Built into the firmware, and the VA pack in its own part of the flash | Bank content. The Sounds page has 11 sound packs, each a bank of 32: CORE, a good first one that fits any style, plus 10 genres: LO-FI, BOOM BAP, TRAP, HOUSE, TECHNO, UK GARAGE, DNB, SYNTHWAVE, AMAPIANO and AFRO. Each is a drum kit (slots 1 to 8) and 24 sounds (bass, chords and keys, leads, pads, FX), VA and FM, and two or three songs made only with it. Play any of it in the browser; load any sound pack into any of A to D | SOUND |
| Loading a bank | (1.1's VA pack: IMPORTING, then SOUND PACK INSTALLED) | Add to FM-1 on the Sounds page or a sound pack's own page, in Chrome or Edge on a computer, then pick the letter. What the letter holds now is backed up in the browser first. The FM-1 says LOADING BANK C, then BANK C LOADED, and the page shows On your FM-1 · bank C. While the music plays or PRESETS is open the page waits, and carries on by itself. A bank the letter already holds is not written again | SOUND |
| A DX7 bank into A to D | Only in safe mode, from a DX7 editor | On the website's DX7 page: drop or choose a .syx bank, hear its 32 voices, then put it into a letter like a sound pack | SOUND |
K4 BANK | Jumped between the types, then the stock banks | Shows the highlighted sound's slot (D02). Turning into a bank names it: BANK C · LO-FI, BANK A · FACTORY for a bank as it left the factory | SOUND |
| A voice without a type | STOCK | DX7 | SOUND |
| A VA sound's name on TRACKS, MIX and the header | A VA pack sound showed the name of the factory sound its knobs follow (ACID BASS for ACID LINE) | The sound's own name from its bank (ACID LINE, GRIT SUB), saved with the song and kept through edits and DUPLICATE. Songs saved before show the old name until you take the sound again | SOUND |
| Kits | PUNCH, DUSTY and STEEL, built in | Also a kit in every sound pack (slots 1 to 8), so up to four website kits at once, one per letter. PRESETS lists a loaded sound pack's kit under KITS, after the built-in three; its drum sounds stay out of the bank's own list (TYPE DRUMS shows them). A song keeps a loaded kit's sounds when the bank is loaded with something else (two loaded kits a song); on 1.1 its pads play the closest built-in drums | KIT |
| A new SOUND track's first sound | A GROOVE sound, a different one for each track | INIT VOICE, the DX7's plain sine: pick its sound in PRESETS | TRACKS |
| A MIDI program change | GROOVE, then banks A to C | A01 to D32; a VA slot is skipped | MIDI and sync |
SETTINGS > ABOUT | PACK and where to get it | SOUNDS GROOVE-OS.COM/SOUNDS | SETTINGS |
What stays built in: the kits and their drum sounds, INIT VOICE, and EMPTY's own sounds. A bank that is erased or holds sounds the FM-1 cannot read shows only what it can; KITS and a new track still play.
A bank load is safe against a cut cable or power: each bank is either the old one or the new one, never half of each, and a load the power cut off finishes by itself at the next power-on. Before every load the Sounds page backs up A to D in the browser; its Backups section keeps them: Put back writes one back, Download keeps it as a file. SETTINGS > STORAGE > RESET BANK still puts a bank back to the FM-1's own sounds, with no computer.
Coming from 1.1. Your songs keep their sounds: every track keeps its own copy of its sound, VA included, so a song plays the same whatever the banks hold, and a VA track still shows the name of the sound it began from. Right after the update the Install page's Start with CORE (See sound packs) brings you to the Sounds page: start with CORE, then add the genres you want, and each letter's sounds are backed up in the browser before they are replaced. The first bank you load takes the place of 1.1's VA sound pack in the flash; the sound packs have VA and FM sounds for every style, and songs that use VA pack sounds keep them. Songs to start from now live inside the sound packs: each pack's page has its own, to add into a slot (see PROJECT). Going back to 1.1 later leaves the banks as they are: 1.1 plays their FM sounds and hides the VA slots.
Songs to start from
| Change | 1.1 | 1.2 | Where |

PROJECT's NEW | Five ready-made projects: FIRST GROOVE, PUNCH, DUSTY, STEEL and EMPTY | EMPTY, a clean page with four sounds and no notes, and MORE, which says where songs to start from are: GROOVE-OS.COM/SOUNDS | PROJECT |

Moving the songs out of the firmware is what makes room for new features.
Your projects and settings
Projects saved on 1.1 or 1.0 load on 1.2 as they were, and the slots, the autosave and your settings stay where they are. A song you began from one of 1.1's built-in songs and saved stays in its slot, like any other project. Installing 1.2, or going back to 1.1, never changes banks A to D: only a bank load from the website or RESET BANK does.
What came in 1.1
Groove OS 1.1 smoothed out the moments where 1.0 got in the way of making a beat: SHIFT (HOME held down) that waits, patterns that grow empty, a grid that hides what you wrote. It also added the VA sound pack, pad mutes on PERFORM, the tempo from any screen and remote control over USB. The changes below are from 1.0 to 1.1.
New
| What | Where |
|---|
The VA sound pack. 63 more VA sounds in nine styles, each with a demo song, in their own part of the flash and installed from the Sounds page (Add to FM-1). PRESETS lists them with the rest, each in its type and marked VA; SETTINGS > ABOUT > PACK says where to get it. Songs keep the sounds they use, even without the pack. (In 1.2 the pack's sounds are bank content.) | SOUND |
| Pad mutes on PERFORM. Hold SEL and tap white keys 1 to 8 to mute or unmute a kit's pads on the launch line: the kick out, the hats on. | PERFORM |
| Remote control over USB. A web page can follow the FM-1 and play its panel, so the Learn pages can follow what you do on it and light the next control. A link mark in the header shows while a page is linked, Learn included. | MIDI and sync |
| The tempo from any screen. Hold PLAY and turn K1: 1 BPM a click, and the music keeps playing. | TRACKS, The controls |
Hint lines that take turns. When a page has more moves than fit, the hint line shows them in turns, every 3 seconds: the main moves first, then the hidden gestures (PLAY+K1: TEMPO, SEQ+KEY: REST, HOLD SEL+TURN: TENS). | The controls |
The undo toast. After anything undo can take back, a toast says how: SHIFT+REC: UNDO T3 DICE. | Recording and undo |
Naming a new song before its first save. On PROJECT, an empty slot says SEL: NAME IT, SAVE IT. | PROJECT |
Quicker to use
| Change | 1.0 | 1.1 | Where |
|---|
| SHIFT keys | Waited for the BACK TAP time; a key pressed sooner played a note | A key pressed with HOME down is a SHIFT key at once | The controls |
| The first PRESETS click | Only opened the browser | Opens it and moves one sound | SOUND |
| SEL + OCT on SEQ | Did nothing | The previous or next bar, like SHIFT + OCT | SEQ |
| PLAY | Started and stopped on the press | Starts on the press, stops on the release; a hold that set the tempo does not stop | The controls |
| Hold SEL + a knob | On a knob that can record moves, it always cleared its lane (NO AUTOMATION when there was none) | Clears only a lane that has moves; otherwise moves any number ten at a time: every menu value, MIX and MAIN, the macros, the pads | The controls |
The macros, a track's LEVEL, a pad's LEVEL | Two a click | One a click | TRACKS, MIX, KIT |
CLICK VOL, a pattern's GATE, GENERATE's DENSITY, the arpeggiator's SWING | Five a click | One a click | The controls |
A track's SEND | One a click, five on a quick turn | One a click, ten with SEL held | MIX |
A pad's SEND | TRACK above 100 %, 5 % a click | TRACK at the bottom: one click right is 0 %, then 1 % a click | KIT |
RENAME | Typed over the old name and kept its tail | The first key starts a new name | TRACKS, PROJECT |
| The PAD menu | Reopened on the row number used last, which moved as the hit's rows came and went | Reopens on the same row by its name; on a hit it opens on HIT VELO | KIT |
Patterns and loops
| Change | 1.0 | 1.1 | Where |
|---|
| Growing a pattern | New bars came up empty | Whole bars repeat into empty new bars; one undo (T1 PATTERN) | SEQ |
| Growing a track's loop or a kit | Repeated, but the copies were not an undo step of their own | One undo takes the copies and the length back (T1 LENGTH) | TRACKS, KIT |
| SEQ on a pattern that plays | Switched it off | Opens its grid; SEQ on the grid switches it off | SEQ |
| SHIFT + SAVE (capture) | Kept the loop's length up to the press, so a late press lost the first notes | Up to a beat after the loop comes round, it keeps the pass that just ended | Recording and undo |
Easier to read
| Change | 1.0 | 1.1 | Where |
|---|
| The KIT grid's header | T1 SEQ | T1 KIT | KIT |
| The cursor's step on SEQ | Only in the STEP menu | The header says STEP 11 OF 32 while you move | SEQ |
| SEQ's rows | Named the note before the track's OCTAVE | Name the note as it sounds | SEQ |
| A chord typed into SEQ | Its lowest notes could sit below the window | The window moves to show the whole chord | SEQ |
| SEL + a white key on SEQ | Jumped in the bar shown, which FOLLOW could change while playing | Jumps in the cursor's bar | SEQ |
| A KIT step key | A hold could toggle the hit away | A tap toggles; a hold only moves the cursor | KIT |
| The TIME row on TRACKS | TIME | ▲ TIME: it is the row above the tracks | TRACKS |
| The rest on SEQ | SEQ held + a key, not shown | The same, and the hint line says it: SEQ+KEY: REST | SEQ |
Sound and feel
| Change | 1.0 | 1.1 | Where |
|---|
| The chord pads | The chords of degrees 1 to 7 from the C key, so in A minor the C key played Am | Each white pad plays the chord on its own letter: in A minor the A key plays Am, and the pads still rise left to right. In a key on C nothing changes | KEYS |
| Effects on and off | Every switch faded the whole mix for a moment | REVERB, DELAY, CHORUS and PHASER switch by their mix, without the fade, after their first switch-on | MIX and FX |
Your projects
Projects saved on 1.0 load on 1.1 as they were, and the slots and the autosave stay where they are. Recorded notes and patterns play exactly as before: the new chord pads only change which key plays which chord live. A project that uses a VA pack sound keeps that sound, so it also plays on 1.0.
Troubleshooting
| What happens | Why, and what to do |
|---|
| My kit is not in PRESETS | It is not on the FM-1 yet. Add it from Your own sounds: Add to FM-1. See Your own sounds: Troubleshooting. |
ADD THE COURSES FROM THE WEBSITE when I open LEARN | The courses are missing on this FM-1. Run the update on the Install page again: it puts them back. See Learn on your FM-1. |
2 SAMPLES MISSING when a song loads | This FM-1 doesn't have those sounds, and their pads play built-in drums instead. Put them on from Your own sounds and load the song again. |
NEW only offers EMPTY | Songs to start from come with every sound pack now. Open a sound pack on the Sounds page (CORE is a good first one) and press Add song to FM-1. |
| A scene changed the mutes but a track kept its pattern | Its SEQ was off when the scene was captured, or it is a KIT track or plays a recording. A scene from a song saved before 1.4.1 has no patterns yet: capture it again. See Black keys: scenes. |
| The wheel stops on PERFORM where it used to stop on KEYS | The order is TRACKS, MIX, PERFORM, KEYS, PROJECT: KEYS is one click further. |
| A new FM-1 has no song playing | It starts on EMPTY: four sounds ready, no notes yet. Play the keys, or add a song from a sound pack: Add song to FM-1 on CORE's page. |
| A key changed a setting instead of playing | HOME was down: since 1.1 every key is a SHIFT key at once. Let go of HOME before you play. |
| SEQ no longer switches the pattern off from TRACKS | It opens the pattern instead. Press SEQ again on the sequencer. |
| Bar 2 of a pattern is a copy of bar 1 | Growing repeats it. SHIFT + REC takes the copies back. |
| Holding SEL and turning moved a value instead of clearing | That knob has no recorded lane. With a lane, the legend says CLEAR. |
| The GROOVE and VA sounds of 1.1, or its VA pack, are not in PRESETS | In 1.2 sounds are bank content: add a sound pack (CORE is a good first one) from the Sounds page. Songs that use the old sounds still play them. |
| A new track plays a plain sine | That is INIT VOICE, a new track's first sound in 1.2. Turn PRESETS to pick one. |
BANK D NOT LOADED | The load stopped (the cable, a closed tab) and the bank is as it was. Load it again from the Sounds page. |
| The Sounds page waits and does not load the sound pack | The music is playing or PRESETS is open on the FM-1. Stop the music or close PRESETS: the page carries on by itself. |
