Chapter 17

What's new in 1.1

Groove OS 1.1 smooths out the moments where 1.0 got in the way of making a beat: SHIFT (HOME held down) that waits, patterns that grow empty, a grid that hides what you wrote. It also adds the sound pack, pad mutes on PERFORM, the tempo from any screen and remote control over USB. Everything here is a change from 1.0; the chapters it links to have the details.

The boot screen and SETTINGS > ABOUT say 1.1 once it is installed (see Install, update and the way back).

New

WhatWhere
The sound pack. 63 more VA sounds in nine styles, each with a demo song, in their own part of the flash and installed from the Sounds page (Add to FM-1). PRESETS lists them with the rest, each in its type and marked VA; SETTINGS > ABOUT > PACK says where to get it. Songs keep the sounds they use, even without the pack.SOUND
Pad mutes on PERFORM. Hold SEL and tap white keys 1 to 8 to mute or unmute a kit's pads on the launch line: the kick out, the hats on.PERFORM
Remote control over USB. A web page can follow the FM-1 and play its panel, so the Learn pages can follow what you do on it and light the next control. A link mark in the header shows while a page is linked, Learn included.MIDI and sync
The tempo from any screen. Hold PLAY and turn K1: 1 BPM a click, and the music keeps playing.TRACKS, The controls
Hint lines that take turns. When a page has more moves than fit, the hint line shows them in turns, every 3 seconds: the main moves first, then the hidden gestures (PLAY+K1: TEMPO, SEQ+KEY: REST, HOLD SEL+TURN: TENS).The controls
The undo toast. After anything undo can take back, a toast says how: SHIFT+REC: UNDO T3 DICE.Recording and undo
Naming a new song before its first save. On PROJECT, an empty slot says SEL: NAME IT, SAVE IT.PROJECT

Your projects

Projects saved on 1.0 load on 1.1 as they were, and the slots and the autosave stay where they are. Recorded notes and patterns play exactly as before: the new chord pads only change which key plays which chord live. A project that uses a pack sound keeps that sound, so it also plays on 1.0.

Troubleshooting

What happensWhy, and what to do
A key changed a setting instead of playingHOME was down: in 1.1 every key is a SHIFT key at once. Let go of HOME before you play.
SEQ no longer switches the pattern off from TRACKSIt opens the pattern instead. Press SEQ again on the sequencer.
Bar 2 of a pattern is a copy of bar 1Growing repeats it. SHIFT + REC takes the copies back.
Holding SEL and turning moved a value instead of clearingThat knob has no recorded lane. With a lane, the legend says CLEAR.
The 63 pack sounds are not in PRESETSInstall the pack from the Sounds page (Add to FM-1 on any style).
PLAY did not stop when I let goYou turned K1 while holding it, which set the tempo. Press PLAY again.
A chord pad plays a different chord than on 1.0Each pad plays its own letter's chord now. Your recordings are unchanged.
Switching the reverb on dipped the sound, but off did notThe first switch-on since power-up still fades; after that the four mix effects switch smoothly.
